TSR Watermark Image vs Watermark.ws

Watermark.ws is a browser-based tool that watermarks photos, video up to 2 GB, PDFs, GIFs and RAW files, with no install and no account. It also throws in cropping, resizing, brightness, borders and filters.

Let's get the honest bit out of the way first.

They do video. We don't.

TSR Watermark Image is a photo tool. If you need a watermark burned into a video file, we have nothing for you and Watermark.ws does the job. Same for PDFs.

That's not a weakness we're going to spin. It's a different product category, and if video is your main need, stop reading and use theirs.

Everything below assumes what you actually have is a lot of photographs.

Uploading 2 GB of anything

The convenience of a browser tool is that there's nothing to install. The cost is that every byte has to travel to their servers and back.

For one image, that's instant. For a shoot, it's your upstream bandwidth — which on most domestic and office connections is a small fraction of your download speed — multiplied by the number of files, twice, because everything comes back again.

TSR Watermark Image reads from your disk and writes to your disk. Throughput is limited by your SSD, not your ISP. One customer ran over 8,000 TIF files through a single batch. That job over an upload link is not an afternoon, it's a weekend.

Where the files sit while they're being processed

Watermark.ws describes itself as "fast & secure", with no install and no account needed. There's no reason to think they're careless. But your images do reach their infrastructure, and once they have, your only assurance about what happens next is their policy.

There's a specific set of work where "their policy" isn't an acceptable answer:

• unreleased client work, or anything under an NDA
• property photography — the inside of someone else's home
• photographs of children
• work where a client contract dictates where their files may be stored
• anything you're handling as a data processor under GDPR

For that work you want the boring answer: the file never left the machine. Pull the network cable, run the batch, watch it finish. That's a thing you can demonstrate to a client, and it's the one thing no browser tool can offer.

The photograph-specific features

Watermark.ws is broad — many file types, light editing. Ours is deep on the one type.

• 3D and embossed watermarks using the image itself as a depth map. Chiselled into the photograph rather than pasted on it.
• EXIF, XMP and IPTC preserved on every paid edition. Your embedded copyright, creator and contact fields survive the batch. GPS, ID3 and several hundred more tag groups on Share editions and above.
• Watermark text built from the file: EXIF values, filename and file data, or an auto-incrementing serial number.
• Multiple independent watermarks per image, each with its own position, size and angle.
• Tiling horizontally, vertically or both, at an angle — the arrangement that survives a crop.
• Multipage TIF, every page read and written.
• Auto-rotation to the EXIF orientation tag, so nothing comes out sideways.
• Output to JPEG, TIFF, PNG, BMP or GIF with quality control and resize in the same pass.
• Directory structure preserved, or everything collapsed into one folder — your choice.
• Your originals cannot be overwritten. The application refuses to accept the source folder as the destination. Watermarking can't be undone, so we don't allow it in place.

Publishing and automation

When the batch finishes, TSR Watermark Image can upload the results straight to WordPress or FTP (Professional + Share) or secure FTP (Secure Share).

And the whole thing runs headless:
