Why bother about image metadata like EXIF, XMP, IPTC and more?
In this article you will learn why it is important to maintain metadata in watermarked photos.
What is metadata
Metadata is "hidden" data in the image file, in Windows you can see these information by right clicking an image file and select details.
Why is it important?
The metadata is important because if your image is stolen and used on anothor website, the thief might remove your watermark but if he do not know about metadata he will not remove them. This way you can prove he has stolen your images and used them for his own purpose.
What type of metadata is there
The most common metadata is EXIF, XMP, IPTC but other exists like ID3, GPS, JFIF, GeoTIFF, ICC Profile, Photoshop IRB, FlashPix, AFCP and ID3
These metadata can contain a wealth of information that will prove you as the rightfull owner of an photo.
